GLEF Please spend time again at the George Lucas Education Foundation site: GLEF. Edutopia at http://www.edutopia.org/. You've used these materials before and should already be subscribed for Edutopia. If not, be sure to study these well and set yourself up this week with them. We will return to GLEF continually throughout this year as model for project-based learning, grounding in your EEV collaboration, some PG/S, and partner in the transformation of teaching and learning. Please make the GLEF materials part of your Development Portfolio. And, we'll be looking for at least three of you to "specialize" in GLEF this year. Please let us know if you are interested. Rachel will be leading a GLEF activity for us. Add your observations and interests from the GLEF site in our EE wiki. |
Take a look at this plan. GLEF Conversations We invite the following people to lead a GLEF conversation. If others are interested, too, they may surely join in. GLEF conversations will highlight one element in the edutopia magazine and one multimedia element on the edutopia site. Topic: Select a GLEF video or article you would like to discuss. (Pick more than one, if you wish.) Dates: You set the dates. Pick one, two or three days for your QuickTopic. Set up the QT or ask me for help to do so. Participants: Invite representatives of your broader community into the conversation – a peer/colleague, an administrator, a parent. Optionally, choose a student, too. And, choose as many people as you wish additionally. Do you know educators elsewhere in the country or the world? Announce your conversation to your invitees and to all in our team (including your mentor). |
Leaders: Nancy McGuirk and Lisa Wong (March 16 to March 21) The quicktopic site is at The video that is related is found on the same page of the article. At the top of the page go to "Video Library" and then scroll down to the video called, "The Changing Role of the Teacher". It has a running time of 2:57. Nancy invited:

Ellen Collins and Meg Ryan (March 30 through April 4) We would like you to join us in an online discussion about literacy
and the classroom. There is a wonderful online resource called the
George Lucas Educational Foundation where we found two articles that
address this topic. We would appreciate it if you would read the articles
and then join us in the online discussion forum to input your thoughts
and feedback about the topic and materials. In order to enter your
feedback, simply click on “Post A New Message”, and a
window will open where you will be asked to enter your name. There
will also be a space below where you can type in your thoughts. Please
also read others' thoughts on the discussion board, and reply or expand
upon their ideas. We will keep this discussion active from Thursday,
March 30th until Tuesday, April 4th. Please log on to the discussion
board several times during this time in order to keep the discussion
active and productive. We thank you for your participation in this
discussion, and hope that you will learn something from it. The links
for the articles and discussion board are listed below. Second Article: “Why Johnny (Still) Can’t Read”

Evelyn O'Doherty and Bruce Lieberman - April 1-5 at http://www.quicktopic.com/36/H/RVcWp77bSXni Dear Parents, Administrators, Educators and Friends in the form of professional artists, Bruce Lieberman and I are hosting an online conversation regarding the new movement toward Media Literacy in public schools. This conversation is based on an article ( link: http://edutopia.org/php/article.php?id=Art_1321&key=137# ) from Edutopia magazine and is part of the George Lucas Foundation. I am hoping I may be able to persuade you to participate in our conversation by reading the article (the video related to it is even better!) and sharing your wisdom because we believe our conversation would benefit from your thoughts on using and teaching electronic media as a form of communication in the classroom. The conversation will officially open on April 1st and ends on April 5th but if you post early, that's fine too. Thanks for your input! Best, |
