An invitation from Dr.
Brian Preston, Supervisor of Planning and Title III Long Island Educational Enterprise
Zone, Nassau BOCES:This on-going professional development model is designed to give classroom teachers the knowledge and skills to:
The Technology Fellowship Institute will be held Sunday, August 1, 1999 to Thursday, August 5, 1999 at the Southampton Campus of LIU. Because of the heavy traffic around Southampton in the summer, provisions have been made for participants to be housed on the campus of LIU for four nights to facilitate collaboration among team members and facilitators. Housing, breakfast, lunch and two evening dinner activities are included at no cost. We seek district teams of up to five participants (teachers/administrators). A kick-off meeting for participants will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 1999 at the C.W. Post Campus of LIU in Brookville, Nassau County, from 4:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. to introduce the project, the facilitators, and establish a dialog prior to the Institute. Two additional meetings will be announced and scheduled after the Institute to address the implementation and assessment of the curriculum projects. District applications to the Fellowship Institute must include a proposal for a curriculum development project that team members will create during the week. Space is limited, and acceptance will be based on the quality of the proposals submitted and the district team's willingness to implement and evaluate the project in the 1999-2000 school year. Registrations will close when capacity is reached or May 21, 1999, whichever occurs first. A selection team representative of Long Island Educational Enterprise Zone, NYSC&TE, and Long Island University faculty will review the applications immediately, and names of participants will be announced by May 28, 1999. Each team will be required to bring the description and outline of their intended curriculum project to the June 8th meeting. If you have any questions pertaining to the Institute or the application process, please contact Joan Costanza, NYSC&TE Board Member-At-Large, at (516) 797-4452 or via email: jfcost@aol.com. On the basis of the curriculum development proposals, regional technology experts will be retained as facilitators/professional developers so that portions of the training can directly support the proposed projects. Activities will include training and hands-on workshops on implementing the new standards and the design of the constructivist classroom. Collegial collaboration in LIU's technology facilities will enhance workshop activities. Instruction will be provided each day on the use of multimedia and the Internet specific to team project needs to support the creation of curriculum projects. We look forward to providing a unique experience in curriculum project development and hope to establish an annual event that fosters professional growth and excellence in our classrooms. |
