Landscapes and settings

Rembrandt’s art is set in context. Here are some ideas related to landscapes and settings that you may enjoy.

Firstly, look at each of the 20 works on our site. Pick the ones that are landscapes or ones that have well developed settings. Look hard. Think about the scenes. What kind of mood is evoked by the setting? What do the elements or objects in it add to your appreciation of your experience viewing the work of art? Now, create something yourself. Make it a landscape or some other well developed context or setting for a scene. Use your imagination.

If you can share your work in electronic form (an image, a presentation with images, audio, and/or text, a blog about an image, or another expression), send it to us to be considered for display in our “gallery.”

You may wish to create your scene before reading “About this” work of art. You may want your imagination free to just look and dream. Be sure to read “About this” work of art at some point, too, to learn about Rembrandt, art, life, times, and place.
