Welcome to our exciting new lesson on recycling. We will be learning all about recycling including:
1. Why we recycle.
2. What we can and cant recycle.
3. How can our planet benefit from recycling.
4. How we can get our community to recycle.
Why do we recycle?
Americans generate approximately 5 billion tons of solid waste each year.
We throw away enough glass jars and bottles to fill the twin towers of The World Trade Center every 2 weeks.
Americans go through 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour.
The problem is we are running out of places to throw our garbage. The key is the 3 Rs. Reuse, reduce, and recycle.
What can we recycle?
Glass jars and bottles.
Plastic bottles (soda and detergent bottles) and tin cans (soup cans).
Paper such as newspaper.
What cant we recycle?
Styrofoam such as coffee cups.
Batteries.
How can our planet benefit from recycling?
If we can all learn to recycle our planet will be free of harmful waste and our environment will be a clean and beautiful place to enjoy living in.
How can we get our community to recycle?
To make our neighbors and friends aware of the importance of recycling we can hand out flyers.
We can have a recycling fair and invite people to come and share in activities. Instead of admission each person can bring a recycleable item and at the end we will weigh all of it and see how much we collected.
These have been just a few reasons we should recycle.
NOW READY . SET . RECYCLE!!!!!!!!
