The Integrated Art, grade six students created these vase designs in conjunction with their studies of Greek civilization. They are based on the geometric elements of design used in Greek vase painting and they also utilize the Greek ideals of proportion and form. Greek vase painters portrayed stories from their mythology, athletic events, and history on these vases.
The students had fun with the optical play between positive shapes and negative space (is it a vase, or a face?). Some students have written poetry and prose as a response to their work. We would encourage others to do the same.
