By Hillary Y.I can taste the salt from the ocean around and beneath the cruise ship. I can feel the freezing cold ice tea go down my throat. This feels good with the blazing hot sun that hits my back on this cruise ship.
With the seagulls flying around the ship, the light blue sky is gorgeous. The laughing breeze falls across my face while I stand there enjoying this cruise thoroughly.
While I see the sun hit the water, the water starts to gleam with light. Looking at the sky, the sun looks like a big yellow candy chuckle, just lying there waiting for it to be eaten.
The bar is full of people in bright colors of the rainbow. Glasses of cola, ginger ale, and ice tea fill the area. Bartenders are working hard and sweating from the heat.
Bathing suits of all colors are in the three pools on deck. Red, green, and blue are most of the colors. The hot tubs are not full, but are not empty either. My feet cool while walking on the wet deck which received water from the three pools on deck. This is an important event in my life because it is my first cruise that I have ever taken. It is an extraordinary experience for me.
It had been an exciting day! The day of the orchestra concert had finally arrived. To prepare for the concert, I had been practicing six to seven days a week. My parents said my playing was superb. I asked questions, made comments, and gave suggestions to make the music sound like it could take you on an extraordinary adventure. When I had no more questions, Mr. Sher (the orchestra teacher) said I had revealed all the secrets of music. I was ready for the concert.
My father and mother drove me to the concert. All the people in the concert were looking very prosperous. I sat down with my music and held the bow like a bird; light enough not to disturb it, but firm enough so it wouldnt fly away. Everyone was seated and the curtains opened.
We started playing. The music sounded so joyful, it just seemed to creep in your heart and get you flowing with the music. All I could see was the enormous crowd in front of me. I couldnt see my parents, but I knew wherever try were, they were proud of me.
I rode back to my house as the rain drummed on the windows. The moon was curtained by thick, gray, clouds. I thought to myself, this was an important event! Now my parents know how much I care about music and how well I play. Then I said out loud to myself, Yes, I think I did do a superb job!
Another Day at Disney
By Mikey B.It was another day at Disney and the sun was blazing at my face like I was a cactus in the desert. I was having the time of my life and thought things couldnt get better when I saw this thirteen story high ride called the Tower of Terror. I was lost in amazement when I saw this elevator from the top falling and everyone on the ride screaming as if they thought they were near death. We waited on the line and finally got on the ride. When the ride started, we were going up past floors filled with scary realistic ghosts and goblins that scared people more than the idea of being scared.
I felt chills as we went higher and higher. Then all of a sudden the elevator stopped and it looked like we could see the whole world. While everybody was looking out from thirteen stories high, a flash came and before we could even blink from the flash (which was a camera taking a picture of us), we were going straight down like what would happen if the elevators cables broke. The screaming of the people in the elevator was so loud that I couldnt even hear myself scream. The ride was finished fast because the elevator felt like it went faster than a race car.
Once my family and I got out and talked about how great the ride was, we didnt waste much time to get online again. We went through the same scary ride and when it was over the second time, we went on to other rides. When the ride was over, I knew that it was the most thrilling ride Id had ever been or ever will be on. It was a great day at Disney!
The day dawned as night took over. It was New Years Eve and my family and I were visiting my cousins. The everlasting trip from New York to Maryland was dull and boring but it was finally over. We had already been in the house for about an hour.
I was so excited to be with my whole family. My two older cousins, Lexie and Jesse, were leaving to go to a party. I stayed home and hung out with Rebecca, my sister, and David, my other cousin.
My uncle Peter and Lexie love animals so Rebecca, David, and I played with them. The gekko was my favorite animal there. If he was a little bigger he wouldve looked like a Dalmatian. He would sit in your hands without squirming around. It was cool how he would cling to your shirt and stand there like a statue. Meanwhile, my cousins had come home from their party.
I could smell the seafood cooking all the way from in the living room. My uncle called everyone to the table for dinner. I could feel the clams and muscles oozing down my throat. The shrimp was the best Id ever tasted. By the time I was finished their was nothing left on my plate.
There were ten seconds left until 1999. 9...8...7... I called everyone into the room to watch the ball drop. 5... I felt my heart beating. 3...2...1...1999! My cousin was screaming so loud I thought I going to go deaf. It was so funny to watch him that I thought I was going to explode with laughter. The year had gone by so quickly. It was a very special moment being with my family.
Smush, smush, smush. I trampled through the damp mud towards the caverns. Today was the day that my family and I were to visit Howe Caverns in upstate New York. All four of us were seating in the cars that transported us to the caverns.
Ive been waiting for this day for three months! I am extremely interested in old monuments, hidden tunnels and underground caverns.
We entered the caverns with excitement in our eyes. I felt the freezing cold air prick my skin like a tweezer pricks hair. I had only been wearing a pair of ragged jeans and a heavy sweatshirt. My surroundings looked queer to me since have never experienced this before.
The smell in the air was a fresh scent that reminded me of the forest. I could taste the intense flavor of the soggy grounds. I could hear the echoes of voices, coming from all around me. I could see indentations where animals used to live.
As we walked throughout the caverns it seemed like my fingers had disappeared, they were so cold! Soon, we were getting back on the carts.
Click! The carts transported us to the exit. We released our seat belts and stepped out of the carts. What a fantastic visit to Howe Caverns!
First Day of School
By Perry M.A big yellow truck is spotted in the distance. We all jump for joy and instantly run to get our backpacks. A quick sigh falls over our faces as the big yellow truck that was supposed to be our bus was really the cleaners. My neighbors and I are very disappointed.
But wait, I cried. What is that? It was our bus. I was right, it was nice and shiny. With huge fumes coming out the back. It smelt bad, but I couldnt wait to get to school. As I met the bus driver there was a bad feeling in my stomach. It felt like butterflies were flying around and I constantly heard the sound of a lion. I was nervous.
I wished if only my brother could be there. He was sick that day and it couldnt have been worse, it was on my first day of school.
I found my friends and sat with them. We were all nervous, but I felt a little better sitting with people I knew well. The bus pulled away and we were off to school. As we pulled up to the school, I jumped out of my seat. I looked out the window. It seemed very hectic.
A teacher came to the bus. She asked for the kindergartners. As I started to get off, I grabbed my backpack and rushed off. I couldnt wait to meet my teacher. She dropped some other kids and myself off at the first classroom.
I met my teacher and she was very nice. I liked school. I had to because school is a very important event in my life. I knew I would be in school for a lot of years to come.
It was my brothers birthday party and we were in the garage. I was picking up a metal bar for a fortress we were making. At first the bar wouldnt budge, but then the bar came flying up into my chin.
The excruciating pain of the metal bar hitting me was unbearable. I tasted blood as I stumbled up the steps to the party. Everyone started screaming as I ran into the bathroom. My mom came running into the bathroom after me.
Nothing was visible. I heard panicking voices around me. Someone yelled out, Ill call the hospital! and I yelled, No! Please dont! By this time I was hysterically crying. My mother was holding me close to her. Even though I had a hole in my chin it made me feel warm and safe. Afterwards the entire bathroom was covered in blood.
This event has changed my life forever. Still, to this day, that horrible memory sticks in my mind as though it were yesterday, even though it was three years ago.
My First Fishing Trip
By Jonathan K.This was going to be my first fishing trip. It was going to be very exciting. The boat was called Captain Doug I.
After we got on the boat, we went high up into the captains seat and when we looked down it was like I was jumping off a high diving board. We also saw the bait. The bait was smaller fish and larva. We then got four lucky rods from the dock. They had ridges on them.
When the boat went off the dock, waves were constantly being made by the boat. While we were eating our breakfast on the boat, we passed Captain Doug 2. Then we took the slimy bait and put it through the hook. As the boat started to stop, I let my rod out and it vibrated. But, when I pulled it up I saw nothing. The second time my rod vibrated I caught a baby fish but let it go. Then my mom caught a huge fish with a white belly. She won the pool for the biggest fish on the boat. My dad and brother caught crabs climbing up their lines. On the way back my brother caught 3 big fish! All together we caught 4 fish! When we got off the boat the sun was gleaming on my face. This was a very exciting event! This was the best fishing trip I ever had!
As I was crying on the nineteenth of August in 1998, I was remembering all the fun I had at sleep away camp, with my friends.
Everyone was crying and everyone was saying their last goodbyes. As tears shed across all of our faces, we thought of how our bunk had stuck together this past summer. Then we all separated and went on the buses to go home. We all knew that our summer had officially ended.
When we got on the bus we dried our tears. Everyone on the bus was finishing up their memory books to remember their wonderful summer. On the bus we watched movies and listened to music. I fell asleep on the route to New York so the ride seemed a lot shorter. When we got to Roosevelt Field every camper was eager to get off the bus and see their relatives. When I saw my mommy, aunt, and grandma, I was so happy that I was home with my family.
After I got off the bus, I took my belongings and we went home. When I got home, my sister Amys bus dropped her off from day camp. I ran to get her so I could give her a big hug. I was finally home. That night we had a party to welcome me home. This event was extremely special to me because family is important and I got my relatives for the first time in four years.
Off to Sleep away Camp
By Tara G.One step, two step, three step, in and out the door going to sleep away camp!
Wow! Its hot! I could feel the hot yellow sun push upon my skin. It feels heavy and warm. If I had to say what it looked like it would be a big yellow jellybean floating in the deep blue sky. The clouds looked to me like a big fluffy marshmallow that was so tasty in the middle. The patch of the different blues in the sky all fit together.
While I ran through the green tickling grass I felt happy. Happy that this was an event that was so important to me because I wanted to prove to myself that I could really do it.
As I hopped into the cool fresh car, I felt a lump in my throat. I felt sad and happy at the same time. So, I waved goodbye to my house and off we went into the distance where I could no longer see my house.
As I arrived at the bus stop, I felt excited and brave. I wanted to prove that I could do it. So, O gave hugs and kisses to my mom, dad, and sister and off I went.
The bus looked very big on the outside from where I as standing. When I got on, it felt cool and refreshing. As I sat down next to my friends, something inside me spoke. It was an imp voice. It said that everything was going to be all right. After that, I hugged my stuffed animal and wiped my tears away.
Brightly shining through my window, was the sun as the day awaited me. Is today the day? The day a brother or sister would be born? No, my sister, Maureen said sadly. Maybe tomorrow, I say, maybe.
Another bright day came one after another. But, then the day of the newborn brother or sister came. I ran to the door, but before I could get there, the door slammed and I was in shock. Mom left with my dad to go to the hospital with a baby on the way. I did not realize what had happened until Maureen said get ready! Mom, shes having a baby! I noticed her voice was both happy and excited, but scared as well at the same time.
I went to school. I was unfocused on any subject except Mom and the new baby. I was eager to get home and find out if they were both all right.
Home at last, I said screaming at my sister while getting off the bus. Running toward my house I stopped suddenly to see a sign in big bold letters, Its a Boy!
As I proceeded through the doors, I smelled the seat. I heard numerous noises, balls bouncing, and the crowd screaming. It all was rather picturesque. I knew I was going to win.
My teammate passed me the ball. I could feel those orange ripples on the ball tickling my hands as I dribbled the ball. My coach gathered my team. He gave my team encouragement with a pep talk.
Then my team was ready to play and my coach gave us the line-up. It was exciting.
I was sitting on the chair when we started. I was so nervous when my coach called my name. I went in to play.
When half-time came we were winning. This game wasnt just another game. It was what my team had worked for all year long.
When it came to a few minutes left in the game, I went in again. The clock ran down. I glanced at the scoreboard. Seven seconds were left on the clock. We were up one point. As I looked at my teammates, I saw fierceness in their eyes. The sweat irritated us. We were saturated in sweat. The clock kept running down. Seven...six... five...four...three...two...one... finally, TIME! We had won! As we received our medals, I felt so happy. It was a wonderful game.
The New Years Eve Party
By Justin G.The minute Chad, Mr. Ray and Mrs. Judy stepped through the door, the party began. The spectacular party was for New Years Eve. Everyone looked at the clock and it was 7:30 PM so we watched a rumble on TV.
At 10:00 PM we at delicious potato salad with juicy spare ribs and string beans. Everyone commented on how flavorful and delicious everything tasted. Everyone was happy. Soon it was 11:50 and my mom passed out the Champagne and apple cider. Then it was 11:55 and we turned the TV back on to see the dazzling sparkling ball on the news. Finally, it was 11:59 PM with only 10 seconds left until the New Year.
Then came the count down. 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1, said the man on the news. Its 1999, Happy New Year! After the ball had dropped, my mom kissed everyone. I said Good-night and went to bed. It was a fun New Years Eve.
