Reflections from the students who participated in the
Children's Winter Break Workshop
at the Heckscher Museum of Art

Expressions of a Modern America I

The Long Island Team sponsored six student villagers to attend a workshop at
the Heckscher Museum's Betty Parsons exhibit.
The students were introduced to her art work and the tools she used, then
they got a chance to get messy right inside the museum.
They used chalk pastels, magic markers and colored construction paper.
|Take a look at some of the art work created by these
young, extraordinary artists...

"When you make abstract art, it doesn't have to look perfect. You just have to make It!"

"I liked learning about Abstract Art. It's colorful. Anyone can be an abstract artist, even a baby scribblings are abstract. You can draw whatever you want that's in your mind. I liked Eileen from Heckscher, she was nice. She lets us draw whatever we wanted too. I really liked working with Pastels. My favorite Betty Parson drawing was Tropical because it had a lot of shapes."
