Geography
Rhode Island is
1,045 in square miles. 50 is where it's ranked by size.
Some
wildlife animals in Rhode Island are: rabbits, beavers, skunks,foxes, raccoons, mink, white tailed deer, geese and owls. Some
vegetation in Rhode Island is: corn, pumpkin, apples, peppers,
eggplant, blueberries, raspberries, tomatoes, carrots and
strawberries.
Since Rhode Island is a small state its
population is 1,048,319.
Climate
In Rhode Island Jan. and Feb
are the coldest month. The temp. is -2c [21F]. July and Aug. are the warmest
month. The temp. is 22c [71F]. In Rhode Island about 31 inches of snow falls
a year. A natural hazard that happens are coastlines are occasionally hit by
hurricanes.
History
In 1700's
immigrants came to Providence, Bristol and Newport for business. In
1840 immigrants came to from China, Portugal, Greece, Ireland,
Asia and Russia to work in cotton and woolen mills.
Some factors that drew settlers was that there
is costume jewelry and silverware factories. Also because
they had salty water and fresh water and different types of
fish live in different water so that is why some people
came to Rhode Island. Some of the fish they had was pike,
bass, perch, trout, butterfish, bluefish and swordfish. This
influenced the development of transportation and trade because
the state has water ports, commercial shipping centers and
63,00 miles of roadway.
The date
that my state entered the US is on May 29th 1790 and Rhode Island
became the 13th state to enter the US.
Economy/Tourism
Three
popular cities and their attractions are: Newport is popular
for summer vacation also famous for boating. Also Providence
is popular for Brown University named after the Brown Family.
Also Providence is known for the Roger Williams Park and
Betsy William donated her farm which was 420 acres and has a
green house, zoo and Japanese garden. Charlestown is popular
for Burilingame State Park where swimmers can swim in the
Watchaug Pond.
The current
Governor of Rhode Island is Don Carcieri. He is a Republican and
will be governor until January 2007.
Food
Three
traditional dishes are Lobster Roll with mayo, celery stuffed
buns; Catfish with cucumber and sugar spices; and third
is Red Clam Chowder Soup.
RHODE ISLAND Red Clam
Chowder
1/4 cup bacon, finely
cut up
1/4 cup onion, finely
chopped
2 (8-ounce) cans minced
or whole clams
2 cups potatoes, peeled
and finely chopped
1 cup water
1/3 cup celery, chopped
1 (16-ounce) can whole
tomatoes, undrained
2 teaspoons fresh
parsley, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/8 teaspoon pepper
Oyster crackers, if
desired
Cook and stir bacon
and onion in large kettle until bacon is crisp and onion
is tender. Drain clams,
reserving liquid. Add clam liquid, potatoes, water
and celery to bacon and
onion. Cook until potatoes are tender, about 10
minutes. Add clams,
tomatoes, parsley, salt, thyme and pepper. Heat to
boiling, stirring
occasionally.
Serve with oyster
crackers, if desired.

Rhode Island are private and public schools. Private Schools were
ran by religious groups up to 1640. Then in 1640 the first public
was open by a person named Robert Lenthal. Three collaees are: Brown
University in Providence for Ivy league School, Wales
University in Providence for hotel and restaurant management and
Newport's Naval War Collage for navy training.
