History

In 1700's immigrants came to Providence, Bristol and Newport for business. In 1840  immigrants came to from China, Portugal, Greece, Ireland, Asia and Russia to work in cotton and woolen mills. Some  factors that drew settlers was that there is costume jewelry and silverware factories. Also because they had salty water and fresh water and different types of fish live in different water so that is why  some people came to Rhode Island. Some of the fish they had was pike, bass, perch, trout, butterfish, bluefish and swordfish. This influenced the development of transportation and trade because the state has water ports, commercial shipping centers and 63,00 miles of roadway.
