Geography

Portugal's capital city is Lisbon and the country is located in eastern Europe next to the Atlantic Ocean  .

Population

The estimate of the population for 2003 is 10,102,022.

Economy

There are many trade ports that they trade with: the United kingdom, Germany, France and the United Dtates. There are about 5,089,185 workers and about 3.8 percent of them are unemployed. 

Government

The people vote for their president at age 18. The head of government would be the prime minister and the president is head of state.

Food

Staple foods are corn, wheat, and rice. People get food either from restaurants, markets, or on farms.  There are people who do grow food themselves but they go to the market to get meats and dairy. 

Fun and Recreation

Many people in Portugal have fun doing many water sports such as, swimming, snorkeling, wind surfing, and big game fishing. On the weekends, they often provide time so that they may go canoeing and hydrospeed near Porto. In the southern part of Portugal they have many championship golf courses. Other events include mountain biking, hiking, and Pony Trekking.

Most of these holidays are similar to other countries but some are just part of their culture.

Independence Day - 1 December - commemorating 1640 restoration of independence from Spain
Feast of the Immaculate Conception - 8 December
Christmas Day 25 December

 

 

 

Language

French, English, German are spoken by the Portuguese and if a tourist visits then they would have to learn how to say hi but they don't bow  like the Japanese.
