Climate

The climate of the Philippines is extremely hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Some of the natural disasters are thunder storms, and earthquakes.

Government

The Philippines is run by a president.  You must be 18 years old to vote for president.  The president is elected every 3 years.

Economy

Most Filipinos grow food themselves.  If they have fish they sometimes buy it from a fishmonger.

Food

The staple dish in the Philippines is rice. One unique Filipino dish is, lumpla shanghai. 

 One thing on a typical day's menu would be rice.  One topping that Filipinos use is pancid.  The Filipinos usually eat fish because they are close to the shore. For example, the Philippines is all islands.

 

Sports and Recreation

The popular sports in the Philippines is basketball.

Language

The main language in the Philippines is called English. There are a few words that came from the Filipinos.  Such as September, October, November and December.  The Filipinos created "ber".

Geography

The Philippines is located in Asia, which is in the south-east hemisphere.  The capital of the Philippines is Manila.  The Philippines is a neighboring country for Indonesia, China, New Guinea, and Malaysia.   I noticed that because the Philippines is an island it similar to Hawaii.

The Philippines is surrounded by the Sulu Sea, the Celebes Sea, and the Indian Ocean. The Philippines is made of 7,107 islands.  The Philippines only has about 25 towns in total. 

 

The population of the Philippines is about 75,000,000 people.

 

Family Values

The average rural Filipino family has a mother, a father, and four children.  A urban family has a father, a mother and 2-3 children.  There is not a father's day or mother's day. A male Filipino knows that he is supposed to take care of his family when he grows up.  A Filipino mother gives advise to the children and it is taken seriously.

Religion

One religion is Roman Catholic.  Another religion is called Aglipayan.  The Filipinos believe in many gods and godesses. 

Holidays and Festivals

One major holiday is All Saints Day on November 1.  Another holiday is Independence Day on June 12.  However, the largest holiday is Christmas on December 25.  On Christmas, children go door to door singing carols.
