Geography

New York is 47,218 square miles. The population of New York is 18,976,457. {It's the 3rd most populous state.} New York is one of the smallest states in The U.S. 

 The Hudson River is an important river in New York. and Lake Champlain, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario are located in NY. The state is on the Atlantic Ocean. New York is in the Western Hemisphere and New York is on the continent of North America. The neighboring states are Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

 

 

Climate

New York tends to have wet springs, warm summers, and cool falls. The temperature differences between the far north and the far south of the state, however, can be as much a 15 Fahrenheit (-9 Celsius) in the summer and 20f (-7C) or more in the winter. The south tends to get far less snow fall in the winter; it's proximity to the ocean also ensures that the snow doesn't always stick.

History

 The Dutch went to New York because the French and Britain wanted to rule. When the French and Indian War broke out after the French started to build forts from the St. Lawrence River, in Canada, south to the Mississippi River, in the territory claimed by the English colony of Virginia. 

The Erie Canal went out of business and the families couldn't make their money anymore because of the Transcontinental Train.

New York entered the Union on July 26, 1788 (11th State).

Food

A Typical breakfast for kids would be a bagel, or cereal, toast, fruits, milk or orange juice. A typical lunch for kids would be hamburgers, pizza, hotdogs, salad, grilled cheese sandwich, French fries, fry chicken and rice. A typical dinner for kids would be vegetables, steak, spaghetti, turkey sandwich, roast beef, chicken cutlet, and meatballs.

PASTRY 
1 c Flour; sifted 
1/4 c Sugar 
1 ts Lemon peel; finely grated 
1 ts Orange peel; finely grated 
1/2 c Butter 
Egg yolk 
1/4 ts Vanilla 

FILLING 
2-1/2 lb Cream cheese 
1-3/4 c Sugar 
3 tb Flour 
1-1/2 ts Lemon Peel; finely grated 
1-1/2 ts Orange Peel; finely grated 
1/4 ts Vanilla 
5 Eggs 
2 Egg yolks 
1/4 c Cream 

Combine flour and sugar, peels in large bowl. Cut in butter until texture of 
coarse crumbs. Stir in yolk and vanilla to form a soft dough. Chill at least 
1 hour. 400F oven. Roll pastry on floured board to 1/8 in. thick Cut out a 9 
in circle; refrigerate the trimmings. Place the circle of dough over the 
bottom of a greased 9 in springform pan. Bake until golden, about 20 minutes. 
Let cool. Filling: Beat cream cheese with the sugar, flour, lemon and orange 
peel and vanilla with an electric mixer. Add eggs and yolks, one at a time, 
beating thoroughly after each addition. Stir in the cream. Increase oven temp 
to 550F. Grease sides of springform pan. Roll out the reserved pastry 
trimmings and cut into strips 2 in. wide. Pat into place against the sides of 
the pan, pressing an edge into the bottom crust. Fill immediately with the 
cream cheese mix. Bake 12 minutes. Reduce temp to 200F; bake 1 hour. Let cake 
cool on wire rack. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

chicken wings
garlic salt
salt
red pepper
1/4 to 1/2 cup butter, melted
hot pepper sauce, to taste

Wash chicken wings. divide at joints. Place jointed chicken wings
on a large cookie sheet sprayed with cooking oil spray. Sprinkle with garlic
salt, salt, and red pepper.

Bake in a 400-degree oven about 1/2-hour or until they start to
brown. Take out and turn all chicken wings over and sprinkle that
side with salt, garlic salt , and red pepper. Bake on that side
until they brown.

While browning the second side, melt butter in a saucepan and add hot pepper sauce in with the butter, according to how hot you like your food. When the chicken wings are done, dip in the butter/ hot pepper sauce and then place in a casserole. placing in about a 325-degree oven until ready to serve.
