Searingtown School

Author: My name is Annie, I am 10 years old and in the 5th grade my family is from Croatia.  I like basketball, softball, going on the computer and being with my friends. One day I would like to visit Iceland and learn some things from there.

Geography

Iceland is in Eastern Europe and is by two oceans -- The Greenland Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. The capital city of Iceland is Reykjavik. Iceland is on the continent of Europe. Iceland is an island right next to Europe. Iceland is Northeast of Europe. 

 

 

Population

In Iceland there is more than 276,000 people.

Currency

The money in Iceland is called Krona .

Religion

The religions in Iceland are Lutheran and Evangelical. Most people there are Catholic, and  go to church every single Sunday.

Food

The kinds of foods that they eat there are rice , bread , soup. 

Child-Raising Beliefs

Children there have to help out around the house if needed. And also have to help clean the table after each of the meals. Sometimes children have to do housework and clean their  rooms.

 

Holidays and Festivals

 Independence Day is on June 17, Sjomannadagurinn is on the first week of June, and Verslunarmannahelgi is in August and is celebrated with barbecues, horses, camp out, and family reunions.  The holiday Sumardagurinn Fyrsti is on the third Thursday of April .

Fun and Recreation

THE FUN THINGS THEY DO IN  ICELAND are swimming, golf tournaments, horseback riding, sking, sledding, and white water rafting.

Language

The language in Iceland is Icelandic.
