Geography

Germany  is in East hemisphere. France, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Belgium, Poland, Netherlands boarder Germany. It is located in Europe. Germany is slightly smaller than Montana. It is 40 percent forest.

Germany has 4 different terrains. Lowlands, Uplands, Gorges near the Rhine river, and mountains.       

Population

The population of Germany is about 82 million. 87 percent of people live in the urban area  

Climate

The climate is usually mild. It has warm summers and wet winters.

Economy

Germany is one of the top five economic powers in the world and provides leadership and generous financial support to the European Union. Germany has a high gross domestic product, although this is far lower in the east. 

Fun and Recreation

Germans enjoy hiking, skiing, swimming, cycling, and playing tennis. They like watching TV with friends. A popular sport in Germany is soccer or what Germans call Fubball. Millions of Germans belong to soccer clubs. Carnivals or Fasching is important in many parts of Germany.

Holidays and Festivals

Beer is the national beverage. Each region and brewery produces beer with a distinctive taste and body. Munich has the Oktoberfest.

The language of Germany is German.

Food

Here's a traditional German recipe:

Rot Kohl - German Red Cabbage

1 red cabbage, shredded
1 tablespoon butter
1 pound of apples
1/2 pound of onions
2 cloves garlic
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon caraway
Salt and pepper
2 tablespoons brown sugar
More than 2 cups of wine
2 tablespoons wine vinegar

Cook cabbage in the butter, while covered, for 5 minutes. Add sliced onions
and apples. Add everything else. Cook slowly on stove for 6 hours.
