Geography

El Salvador is the smallest country in Latin America and even the entire western hemphisphere. 90% of El Salvador's rivers are polluted with chemicals dumped from the factories. It is a mountainous country neighbored by Guatemala and Nicaragua.  

Climate

An average year for El Salvador is rainy in May to October and the rest of the year normal spring time weather. On January 16 2001 a massive earthquake hit El Salvador killing many and made the US government ban citizens to visit El Salvador for a while. 

Population About 45% of the people live in the urban area. The total population of El Salvador is6,122,575. El Salvador's life expectancy for males is 66.73 years and for females are about 70.03 years.

 

Economy

The main currency of El Salvador is the US dollar and the San Salvador colon.

Government

El Salvador's government is a republic. The people elect a President and a Vice President for 5 years.

Food

In El Salvador the agricultural crop grown is sugarcane. A daily meal is made of beans, bread, corn , rice and an assortment of meat.

Cultural Arts

Poetry is very major in El Salvador some popular and famous writers are Manila Argued and Francisco Rodriguez. The village of La Palma has been a major school of art in El Salvador started by Fernando Lord. Archaeological ruins have been found such as ancient Maya ruins. Although El Salvador had its independence from Spain, much of their colonial art and architecture reflects Spanish art and show the influence them.

Holidays and Festivals

Some major holidays of El Salvador of course, their Independence Day celebrated on September 15. On August 6 El Salvador celebrates Del Munde, an old Spanish holiday .A week after Easter the people of El Salvador celebrate something similar to Christmas called Semen Santa.

Fun and Recreation

The most popular sports played in El Salvador is Volleyball and Soccer, Baseball and Basketball. Entertainment is mostly made of movies,  TV, dancing ,tennis, fishing, waterskiing and horseback riding.

Language

El Salvador's main language now is Spanish although there are still few Indians there speak the ancient language  of the Nashua
