Climate

The winters in the Czech Republic are cold and very snowy. But the summers are very warm. But watch out for flooding! Be sure to pack some boots if you get stuck in a flood! 

Government

If you are 18 years or older you vote for the person that you want to be the leader. The Czech government is a parliament democracy. 

Economy

The currency of the Czech Republic is the Czech koruna. The Czech Republic has many farmers that grow food for the country. They also export machinery, transportation equipment, chemicals raw materials and fuel. 

Food

The farmers in the Czech Republic grow wheat, potatoes, sugar beats, hops, and fruits. he farmers also raise animals like pigs and chickens.  

Most people grow their own food but for the 21% people that live in the city they by their food in a market. Since the Czech Republic is landlocked most people don't eat seafood at every day meals. The people in the Czech Republic drink a lot of beer. In fact the Czech Republic is the country that drinks the most beer world wide!  

A typical days meal includes meat, dumplings, cabbage potatoes or rice, and thick gravy. They use forks, spoons and knifes to eat their food. 

Holidays and Festivals

The most popular festival is the Prague Dragon Boat Festival.  20 teams race in a 12 meter Chinese dragon boat. Each team has one steersperson,  one drummer, one leader and a maximum twenty paddlers. The course is 320 meters. at the end of the race the drummer must ring the bell to win. The winners fill the trophy with beer and drink it.   The Prague Jazz festival is a round the year event the celebrates the world of Jazz artistes. it starts in the spring and ends in the fall. 

Sports and Recreation

For entertainment the people of the Czech Republic watch movies, boat race, and go to shows. One popular children's game is Pesek walks around (us).  This game is just like duck, duck, goose. 

Geography

The Czech Republic is in Central Europe so  it is landlocked. The countries that surround the Czech Republic are Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Poland. The Czech Republic has rolling planes, hills, and plateaus. It is a very hilly country. The Czech Republic  covers 77,276 square kilometers of land. With 1,590 square kilometers of water.   

The Czech Republic has 10,272,179 people living there. 21% of those people live in the cities. 99.9% of the people in the Czech Republic can read and write. people are expected to live for about 75 years.           

Cultural Arts

Jan Hammer is one of the more well known musicians. Frantisek Bilek and Frantisek Kupka are some artistes in the Czech Republic. 

The people dance simple village dances and elegant ballroom dances with a full orchestra.

Family Values

It is very common for three generations of family members to be living in one house. When any family member in the house gets sick the other members help to get them well again. Nobody lives alone in the Czech Republic. 

The mother and the girls do the housework and the boys learn the trade from their father. The girls also learn to cook, and how to run a household. 

Religion

One major religions is atheist. The people that are atheist think that there are no Gods and their rituals vary.  Another religion is Roman Catholic. They believe in one  God and at Communion they bless bread and then it becomes the body of Jesus
