Religion

Taoism and Buddhism are the two main religious beliefs in China. Two important themes in Chinese spirituality are harmony and balance.  Many people practice the Taoist principle of feng shui so that their furniture and homes are in balance with nature.

Child-Raising Beliefs

In China all city parents can only have one child per family and in rural areas you are allowed to have two children. All children are expected to obey their parents and are supposed to spend a lot of time on their homework. Games that the children play are jump rope, hopscotch, hide and seek and tag.

Children start school at the age of six. School is six days a week from 8:00am-5:00pm and they have a two hour lunch period. Boys and girls both get the same education.

Food

In China about 2/3 of Chinese workers are working on a farm. The main products that are grown are rice, wheat, cotton, silk, tobacco, peanuts and fruit. China is one of the main producers of rice, cotton and tobacco.
