Kamishibai Storytelling (3rd Grade)

 

Activities:

  1. Read Kamishibai Man. Class discussion: What is Kamishibai? (pronounced kah mee she bye)
  2. Share the following Japanese folktales with students:
    1. The funny little woman / retold by Arlene Mosel
    2. Tasty baby belly buttons / by Judy Sierra
    3. Under the cherry blossom tree : an old Japanese tale / retold and illustrated by Allen Say.
  3. Divide class into groups. Each group will be assigned a different folktale to retell.
  4. Follow instructions found at Kamishibai Unit
  5. Scan illustrations onto computer.
  6. Have students create Photostories of their Kamishibai, using their illustrations, narration and music.
