Process
You will work in 3 teams to complete the following tasks. Teams will document their research in our Kids for Kenya Wiki.
- Investigative Team - The Investigative Team will research the roadblocks to education in Kenya. You must answer the following questions:
- What contributing factors have led to the present education situation in Kenya? You should examine:
- Traditional Practices
- Poverty
- Natural Disasters
- Health Issues
- You will take your information and create a brochure that will be distributed to guests at our symposium.
- What contributing factors have led to the present education situation in Kenya? You should examine:
- Children's Rights Specialists - Will study certain articles from the Convention of the Child and determine what rights are and are not being met presently in Kenya. Using PhotoStory, your team will examine the difference between "needs and wants" and create a documentary that compares your school life to a child's school life in Kenya.
- Documentary Team - The Documentary Team will conduct a video interview with Bradley Broder from the Kenya Education Fund.
- Your team will use Visual Communicator to edit and produce a short video documentary that will help people understand why the Kenya Education Fund exists and why you, as fellow children, believe it is important for your class to help other children in another part of the world.
- After viewing the information provided by the other teams, you will create a "heart map" poster.
- Put a large heart in the center of your poster
- Create branches off the heart and link them to reasons why we should care about these children. Use words and images.
