The Kids Campaign Committee will be divided into two groups (this can be divided up within one class or two classes): the Republicans and the Democrats.  Within each group, there will be three teams of approximately 4-6 students that will be assigned various tasks.

The Kids Campaign Committee will be divided into three teams for each candidate (total of 6 teams). The teams are the:

  1. Investigate the candidates' stands on issues important to the American people.
  2. Create a video TV commercial or talk show based on three promises your candidate would make to the American people. Upload your video to the Election Wiki.
  1. Research the qualifications and responsibilities of your candidate.
  2. Using a timeline or mindmapping tool, create a flowchart that explains the process of electing a U.S. president.
  3. Create campaign posters for your candidate. You have several choices on how to create your posters. You may use any of the following and you may use any combination of the following:
    • online tools, Microsoft Publisher, Word, Adobe Photoshop (or you may choose to draw your poster by hand on oaktag, photograph it, scan it)
    • However you create your campaign posters, you must upload them into your Election Wiki AND have a "hard copy" available for your election rally.
  4. (optional) Create campaign buttons for your candidate.
  1. Complete a candidate fact sheet.
  2. Research the history of voting rights.
  3. Find out how to register to vote in your state.
  4. Take a community survey using SurveyMonkey or Zoomerang to determine local voter participation in the last presidential election.
  5. Create a vodcast or podcast (use PhotoStory or VoiceThread for vodcasts and Podomatic or GCast for podcasts) in order to educate the public on the importance of voting. Upload your show to the Election Wiki.

All 3 teams for each candidate will present their work at the Virtual Election Rally on Thursday, October 30th to other classes in your school and outside your school through your Election Wiki.  Classes will then cast their ballots and decide who is the best candidate for President of the United States!

Election results will be posted on Friday, October 31, 2008.
