Process:

Week 1: WHAT IS A SUPERHERO?

Working in small groups, create a list of all the superheroes you can think of from literature, television, and modern movies. (5 minutes). Next, using chart paper, a whiteboard or a Smartboard, list as many qualities and traits of a superhero that you can think of (5 minutes). Now, discuss with your group why superheroes are so popular. As a class we will list what makes a great superhero story.

Next, print out the Lesson 1 Note-taking Organizer to fill in as you watch the video of Jason and the Golden Fleece. As a class we will discuss which superhero characteristics Jason possessed and which qualities made it a good superhero story.

Weeks 4-6: CREATE YOUR PHOTOSTORY

Teachers: Click here for a tutorial on how to use PhotoStory.

During the next three weeks you will create your PhotoStory.

  1. You will be assigned a partner for this part of the project. Your partner will be related to your character. Your photo story should include:
    1. Your Greek name
    2. Your powers/responsibilities
    3. Your personality traits
    4. Your family relationships
    5. Your symbol(s) - this could be several items, including tools, animals, and/or cities.
    6. Your story vase
    7. Your own personal "superhero" description and image (optional, time permitting)
  2. Search for images for your photostory and save them in your folder on the computer. Remember your goal is to inform your audience about your diety.
  3. Working with your partner, create your storyboard. (Make sure you get a digital image of your vase when it is finished from Mrs. Williams). Remember, the text you put in the storyboard will actually be recorded by you for the photostory. Keep it short, interesting, and to the point.
  4. Finally, create your PhotoStory with your partner.
