LEARNING
ABOUT CHILDREN’S RIGHTS:
Activity 1:
In
this activity you will learn what children's rights are as determined
by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is
an international human rights treaty about young people. It was accepted
by the UN General Assembly in 1989. Follow the instructions below. You
may print out the instructions by clicking on the link to the left.
Next, open up INSPIRATION. You are to create a graphic organizer
that explains children’s rights. Your MAIN IDEA is CHILDREN’S
RIGHTS. Off of the main idea, you are to web at least two rights from
each group of rights that you read about. You should include the Article
#, the Title of the Right, and an explanation of the right in YOUR OWN
WORDS. You may design the organizer any way you like.
When you have webbed
out the various rights, you are to continue the web by thoughtfully
adding 1-2 personal comments on how children's lives in your home, school,
or classroom meet the standards set forth in the rights you selected.
